Nurturing My Passion in Dancing
During my college days, I often accompanied my peers in attending different sessions and music concerts across the city, although music epic music has really never been my thing. I only loved listening low music, preferably loud enough to leave the doorstep of my room. However, one particular experience changed my whole perspective about music, especially jazz and rock. Someone made me realize that listening to music does not exhaust the various ways in which one can enjoy it. She made me realize that one has to feel the music, move with the beats of it, dance to the rhythm… etc.
I met her at a dance festival in my second year in college. She was vibrant and so full of life. She could not miss any music concert that could be organized in the neighborhood, irrespective of the type of music that was being played. She however loved jazz and rock music with passion. Therefore, one day, after we had got close enough, I accompanied her to one of the jazz festivals that had been organized by the student organization to nurture talent. Various jazz maestros had been invited and the grounds were so full of life and energy. She could not concentrate while trying to keenly observe and identify the performers and the dancers on the stage.
I, however, was completely out of the game there, but I was excited by her vigor and passion. As the event went by, I could not help but like the mood in the air. It was not until the key performer took the stage that I realized how loved and cherished he was by her fans, especially my newly acquired girlfriend. Everyone was busy dancing to tune and without hesitation, she forcefully made me dance to her moves, which I endearingly obliged to.
You could have seen her. She was so good in the dance that I envied her and felt so stupid of myself not knowing how perfectly to hold and dance with her to her perfection. That was the moment that I made it an obligation to learn the different moves involved in dancing jazz and rock too, which later came to be my favorite genre of music.
Benefits of Practicing How to Dance
The process of practicing and learning how to dance to different genres is quite challenging, vigorous and requires commitment, dedication and hard work. In order to dance to jazz, you need to learn how to listen to it. I practiced listening to patterns, symmetry and to the change in melodies and texture. Slowly by slowly, I started feeling the music in me. Then I started making the very basic moves such as arm and body moves as well as side gliding and moonwalk.
Freestyle moves are also a key ingredient at this particular phase of learning so that one can realize not only the different moves that the body is comfortable making and those that need a little straining to achieve but also those that need not to be performed too. She encouraged me during my lone dance sessions and joined me in a variety of other sessions until I gained my self confidence and the motivation to join a dance group. Within a few months, I was able to make adorable dance moves and even became a creator of new ones. By the time I was completing my college education, I had become a complete dancer of many genres of music and a pure lover of rock and roll.
I have since dedicated a few of my day time hours towards training and mentoring young students who feel they have the talent in music or the passion to pursue dancing as a career. My girlfriend who has since become my wife is the manager of the facility, which also houses a gym for fitness purposes. She is currently pursuing dancing as a career, as she manages and trains our recruits.
